Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us at info@subtile-tile.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No, we sell exclusively through our website.

There is no production lead time. Our products are always in stock and will typically ship the next business day.

Yes, and we highly encourage you to do so in order to get the most accurate idea of what the installed mosaic will look like. Please click on the “Order a sample kit” link at the bottom of the page.

Samples are small, stand-alone mosaic sheets containing 25 mosaics (5 by 5). They include all four of our tile colors. Sample sheets are mounted on the same mesh and are packaged in the same way as our regular products to give you the most accurate picture of what to expect when you order our products.

Individual mosaic tiles are 20mm x 20mm (¾ by ¾ inches) and 4 mm thick.

Large mosaic sheets contain 225 tiles (15 by 15) and are 12 7/8 by 12 7/8 inches.

Small mosaic sheets contain 105 tiles (7 x 15) and are 6 by 12 7/8 inches.

In our experience, a charcoal or dark grey color grout works best for most applications.

Yes and no. No two pieces of vitreous glass mosaic will ever be identical. From up close, individual mosaic tiles have an inherently rustic “powdered” look, making each of them unique. However, the color tone is consistent across tiles, so your entire design will have a consistent look. To get the most accurate idea of what your mosaics will look like, order a sample today!

We are here to help you plan your small or large scale commercial project. Our dedicated designers can help select the perfect patterns for your application. Special pricing may be available depending on the size and nature of your project. Please contact us with the details.

Yes, the Design Resources tab on our website has detailed guides on installation as well as a number of resources to help you create your own designs.

No. Most tiles used today are either ceramic or glass tiles, with glass gaining popularity due to its durability, easy maintenance, and aesthetics. With translucent glass tiles, installers sometimes worry that the look of the tiles will be affected by the thinset they use. Because our tiles are solid, the color of the thinset will not affect the final look.

Another installation concern is that cutting glass tile can be more difficult. In fact, cutting our mosaic sheets is much simpler than cutting regular tile: it can be done with a regular pair of scissors! Because of their small size, it is very unlikely that you will need to cut individual mosaic tiles. If you do, you can use simple tile nippers.

Because our mosaics arrive affixed on a fiberglass mesh, you do not have to worry about consistency of the grout lines between individual mosaics. Between sheets, use tile spacers (1/16 inch), just like you would for regular tile.

In our experience, DIY-ers find our mosaic sheets very easy to install. If in doubt, we recommend consulting an experienced tile installer.

1/16 tile spacers will ensure that the grout lines between sheets match the grout lines between mosaics on the same sheet.

Because of the small size of the individual mosaic tiles, it is almost never necessary to cut mosaic tiles. If the size of the sheet needs to be adjusted, simply use ordinary scissors to cut the mesh between the tiles. If needed, individual glass tiles can be cut using ordinary tile nippers.

Yes. However, floor installations in high-traffic areas are not recommended.

Yes, glass tiles work great for these projects. We recommend hiring a professional installer for wet applications.

Each sheet of mosaics, mounted on a fiberglass mesh, is packaged individually with a cardboard backing. This means that as the sheets are placed on top of each other in the shipping box, there is a layer of cardboard between every sheet. Packing material is placed around the sheets in the shipping box for further protection. In our experience, this packing method ensures that damage during shipping is extremely rare.

Upon receipt, please inspect your entire shipment carefully. Should you discover any broken tiles, please contact us within 5 days of delivery. In most cases we will be able to send you loose mosaics to easily switch out the broken ones in your sheet(s). In rare cases, sending a replacement sheet will be more practical. In either case, we will replace tiles damaged during transit at no cost to you.

Should the tiles become damaged during transit, we will replace them at no cost to you.

If you simply change your mind and would like to exchange or return our product, you can do so within 30 days of delivery. In this case, you will need to arrange and pay for shipping yourself. Packing and shipping tiles is complicated: to reduce the likelihood that you will need to do this, please use our Design Resources to design your project carefully. Make sure to order a sample kit to see the exact color and texture of our mosaics.

Please see the “Return and Refund Policy” link at the bottom of the page for details.
